OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Debbie Robinson says that she was watching a television program about Nostradamus on Wednesday night when she thought she heard the end of the world just outside the front door of her Overland Park home.

It turns out that it wasn't the end of the world, but it was definitely the end of a tree thanks to a lightning strike in her yard in the 8300 block of Riggs Street.

The tree exploded when it was struck by the lightning bolt, burying her Dodge Ram truck and her Mitsubishi Eclipse under debris.

" I had two payments left on it (the Dodge), three on the car," said Robinson. She says that the explosion left one wall in her kitchen was pushed inward by the force of a tree limb that bounced off the house.

"Glass came flying out and pictures and stuff came off the wall," added Robinson.

Robinson's next-door neighbor had four windows blown out.  A house across the street had damage to it's front siding and the car in the driveway had it's back windsheild smashed out.  Tree limbs four feet long were laying in the street five houses away and a few power lines were knocked down as well.

Robinson says that she still can't get over the scope of the damage from just one lightning bolt.

"It's horrible, it's not been a good year to begin with and this just tops it off," said Robinson. "I'm ready to see the New Year come in."
