NEW YORK — All good things must come to an end, and for South Korean rapper Psy that could mean no more “Gangnam Style.”

The 35-year-old performer told MTV News on Monday that his performance on New Year’s Eve in Times Square would be the end of the song – easily the most popular (and ubiquitous) of 2012 and now the most-viewed video in the history of YouTube with nearly 40 million views.

“Being in Times Square on New Year’s Eve is already special — it’s the biggest stage in the universe — plus it’s my birthday, so, with all that, it may be the ending of ‘Gangnam Style’,” Psy told MTV News. “I mean, what better way to do it? It’s my biggest and most meaningful birthday.”

Psy says that the song became “too popular,” and he wants to start working on new material.
