Workers Rush To Repair Pipe, Road For Plaza Businesses
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Plumbers worked Wednesday to repair a six-inch water main that busted Tuesday morning near 47th Street and JC Nichols Parkway on the Plaza, flooding businesses nearby.
Riden Plumbing was hired for the job and said they don’t know for certain what caused the break. However, Steve Larson with Riden said his crews were repairing another water main break just two blocks away less than two months agao.
“Just the age of the pipe- just simply the age of the pipe. It’s this type of pipe,” he said. “It gets a hole in it and starts with just a little pin hole and just gets big, big, big, big and that will do the damage we’ve got here today,” Larson said.
Coldstone Creamery and Decori on the Plaza are among the businesses trying to dry out and waiting on damage estimates from the insurance company.
Workers hope to be finished with the repairs by midnight and then repave the road and have enough finished to reopen both lanes of 47th Street on Thursday afternoon.
