PARKVILLE, Mo. --  President Obama signed a big defense bill last week. Deep within it, there was legislation related to a different kind of war -- the war on cancer. The bill requires the National Cancer Institute to focus more on the deadliest cancers including pancreatic, lung, liver, esophageal and ovarian. Within 18 months, NCI will have to develop a scientific framework to find early detection methods and better treatment options.

FOX 4 Medical Reporter Meryl Lin McKean shares the story of a Parkville woman with pancreatic cancer who had gone to Washington in support of the bill.
