BURLINGTON, Vt. -- His life flashed before his eyes. He thought he was a dead man. That's because a large bull moose was chasing him.

It happened at Sugarbush Resort, near Burlington, Vermont. Nineteen-year-old Jeff Palmer said he was standing near an area of the resort when he noticed the moose trotting toward him.

"I was like, 'You got to be kidding me," Palmer said in an interview with reporters.

Palmer took off running.

"My life flashed before my eyes when I looked back," he said.

Fortunately, as Palmer ran into the woods, the moose veered off and continued up the slope. Palmer was unharmed, although his adrenaline was pumping.

Apparently, Palmer isn't the only one to have seen the moose. Hundreds of others have reported seeing the burly Bullwinkle on the slopes. Game wardens said they do not consider the moose to be a threat to skiers, but they do urge visitors to give the animals their space.

"We caution people," said Win Smith of Sugarbush. "They are big animals; give them their clearance. Don't get near them or agitate them."
