ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A massive manhunt is happening in Florida, after police say a man intentionally ran over and killed a dog.

Snoopy, 6, was known to dart out from behind his owner, Paul Alves, St. Petersburg home, but would always return.

On Monday, it took a tragic turn when Alves, who was getting ready for work, realized Snoopy hadn’t returned in more than an hour.

A witness told police she saw a car speeding behind Snoopy, saying “he was running for his life,” she told The Tampa Bay Times.

Police say the driver of a dark-colored sedan seemed to have purposely hit the dog.

The woman said she heard the dog yelp and the car kept going. Snoopy’s neck was broken, according to Alves.

The whole incident was caught on security camera footage from a neighboring home.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
