Feb. 14 you can begin claiming education credit on taxes

(CNN) — If you’re planning to claim an education credit on your taxes, you now have a Valentine’s date.

No — not a dinner date.

Feb. 14 is the first day the IRS will accept returns with Form 8863 — the education credit form.

When the filing season kicked off on Jan. 30, the IRS was still updating the system that processes those forms.

But it will be up and running by Valentine’s Day to accept the American Opportunity Tax Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit.
