KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Police have identified the victim of Friday night's fatality accident whose truck wasn't found in a creek until Saturday afternoon by passers-by. Richard A. Buckner, 53, was a resident of Kansas City, Kan.

From Friday night up to Saturday afternoon, police believe people traveled down the Leavenworth Road near 133rd, not realizing that just a few feet away was a vehicle that had crashed into a creek with the driver still inside.

"The position of the vehicle is really outside of the roadway," said Kansas City, Kan., Police Sgt. Emmett Lockridge.  "If you are paying attention to the roadway itself, you would not have noticed it."

It was discovered after 1 p.m. Saturday when a couple on their way to get a load of hay noticed the smashed truck. After investigating, they realized they needed to call the authorities.

Police told FOX 4 News that Buckner's family notified them Friday night that he had not returned home. On Saturday, his family came to the crash scene only to find out their worst fears had come true.

For close to an hour, crews worked to get the vehicle out of the ditch.  Only a mangled shell of a truck remained.

According to police, the cause of the Buckner's death is unknown and the accident remains under investigation.
