Quick-thinking cop recognizes Shawnee robbery suspect
SHAWNEE, Kan. — It was thanks to a quick-thinking Shawnee police officer who remembered a man he pulled over recently for connecting the dots after a robbery Wednesday afternoon.
According to Shawnee police, a McDonald’s was robbed around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday. Employees say a man ordered a drink and then demanded cash. While he didn’t show a weapon, police said the man kept his hands in the pocket like he had one.
After getting an undetermined amount of cash, he took off.
And that’s where an officer’s good memory helped.
While hearing an “attempt to locate” inside his cruiser, the officer recalled pulling over a similar car for running a red light. Turns out, he was right.
Officers were quickly able to determine the driver was the same person involved in the McDonald’s robbery.
Hours after the robbery, police said they found the car and took a 16-year-old into custody without incident.
No one was hurt in the robbery. Police will not release the man’s name since he is underage.
