KANSAS CITY, Mo. —  A fundraiser is underway to raise money for a Heartland Midwest employee injured in the JJ’s Restaurant explosion. Chris Decker says his son’s baseball coach is Mike Tanner who he says remains hospitalized with injuries sustained in the blast. He says the ‘Devil Dogs’ team will miss ‘Coach Mike’ when they play their first game of the season at the end of the month.

Decker says Mike is a great husband and a wonderful father. And, says he sympathizes with him after having been out with a work-related injury of his own in the past.

“I know the hardships of having or not having the money to do certain things so every little bit helps, so I really just wanted to help him as a family because the baseball team we’re on we’re a family, said Decker.

Decker says he promises to shave his head–even wax his legs in exchange for donations.
The attorney for Heartland Midwest says four Heartland Midwest employees were hurt in the explosion.
