LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- The Woods Chapel United Methodist Church has been giving out free prom dresses to area teens for nearly a decade. The prom boutique is a free, one stop shop for everything prom this spring. Volunteer Melanie Kline helps set up the make shift department store.
"The girls love it, they have a great time coming to look at all the pretty dresses and accessorizing," said Kline.
The boutique opens on from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church located at 4725 N.E. Lakewood Way, in Lee's Summit.
This year, organizers say they have more than 2,500 new and gently used dresses for girls to choose from. However, the free fun doesn't stop there. This year, the boutique has more purses, jewelry and shoes than ever before.
"In about 15 seconds it makes it all worth wild when you see a girl come and look in the mirror and say, ah, i look like a princess," said Volunteer Linda Deupree.
Deupree has been volunteering for five years and heads up the shopping for all the jewelry.
"We have had help collecting this by different people making donations and also donations from local department stores," said Deupree.
The boutique also has private dressing rooms and on site alterations.
