KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Employees at a popular east side neighborhood grocery store are breathing a big sigh of relief -- after a co-worker survived getting carjacked at gunpoint.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thriftway Grocery Store near 39th and Kensington in Kansas City, Mo.
A woman, who was an employee at the store, walked to her car and was carjacked by six younger men. The cashier told police one of the men pointed a gun at her face before they stole her car and purse.
"She said they put a gun in her face and told her to get out of the car and everybody jumped in and drove off," Tiffany Stapleton said, another employee at the store.
The men only got away with $12 and were later arrested by police just blocks away from where the carjacking took place.
"I'm really glad they caught them because whoever did it didn't really understand we're all really close nit around here," Stapleton said.
Prosecutors said the carjackers could face charges on Thursday.
