BELTON, Mo. -- Three members of one Kansas City family have died under violent circumstances within the last seven months. Charity Caswell attended her cousin Ronnie Trent's funeral on Wednesday in Belton.
Trent's body was discovered by two boys near a creek between 54th and 55th streets in Raytown, Mo., on Friday, March 29. Police say Trent was running from the law the day he disappeared.
Caswell says police didn't take her seriously when she reported her cousin missing on March 4 because of the family's criminal past. She thinks maybe he would have been found alive if police had listened to her.
"No family is perfect," Caswell said. "Just because we have a past or in trouble with the law, people change, drugs, people change from all of that, and just because you have a past, the law doesn't care."
On Labor day of 2012, Trent's brother, Adam Trent, was shot and killed during a family fight at Rotary Park in Independence. And just last week, a brother-in-law was killed during a police-involved shooting near 11th & Norton in Kansas City.
