American Heartland Theatre to close
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The American Heartland Theatre announced Thursday it will permanently close at the end of the season on Aug. 25.
“The American Heartland Theatre has been a beloved part of Crown Center for more than 26 years and we’re obviously very sad that it will close,” said Lilli Zarda, the AHT’s longtime executive director. “But we’re also looking forward to celebrating the theatre’s legacy through the remainder of this season.”
The theatre opened on April 1, 1987 on Level 3 of the Crown Center Shops. More than 160 productions have been performed on the stage, the theatre said.
In an email to FOX 4, Zarda said the theatre said was closing based on a decision by Crown Center and it “not being financially sustainable” in today’s world.
