CHICAGO — It took a few days, but the Kansas City Royals finally won their first game of the year with a 3-1 victory over the White Sox in Chicago on Thursday.

The Royals got an excellent outing from starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie (1-0), who pitched 6 full innings and gave up just one earned run while striking out nine batters.

The Royals scored all three of their runs in the top of the 5th inning off White Sox starter, and eventual loser Gavin Floyd (0-1). Jarrod Dyson, Chris Getz and Alex Gordon all had runs batted in.

The Royals have yet to hit a home run this season.

Their season opening road trip continues with the first of three games in Philadelphia against the Phillies on Friday.
