Own its own terms "Evil Dead" is money. It's more gruesome and outrageously violent than the original which is saying a lot. Yes, there is no Ash the cult hero from the original movies. But this is no remake of the 1981 cult classic. It's better. More amped up. And wickedly more evil.RUSSThis reboot seems possessed by the horror spirit of the original, but the slapstick specter is missing. Still, "Evil Dead" is a skillfully made and decadent gore-fest that is also a not-so-subtle comment on drug addiction.

"The Cabin in the Woods" was my 5th favorite movie last year. In many ways "Evil Dead" is better. "Evil Dead" is definitely a genre masterpiece. There are plenty of homages, but Overall it's a rebirth. It’s the same intention with a different story.RUSS
The zippy pace, creative camera angles and anything goes attitude serve as an entertaining tip of the hat to the original, although the carnage has been cranked up to “11” this time out.

I will have to say that the lack of humor which made the original three "Evil Dead" movies so fun to watch is totally missing. This version is deadly serious. Didn't bother me but if you need comic relief to break up the tension when watching horror this ain't the one for you. This thing is bloody, bloodier, bloodiest of all.

Like you said, the welcome humor that characterized the original is lacking in “Evil Dead,” but this update should receive a stab of approval from horror fans.

In order to enjoy "The Sapphires," you have to pretend like "Dreamgirls" and "Sparkle" never existed. The basic story arch is the same except that this movie is about a 1960s-era girl group of Aboriginal Australians who get their big break singing for American soldiers in Vietnam. Entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable especially Chris O'Dowd. Best known from "Bridesmaids."

Fans of 60s Soul music should enjoy this low-key tuner. Yes, this true story is a bit clichéd in execution, but the affable cast and toe-tapping music carry the day.

A stunning performance from young Elle Fanning is the main attraction of the austere British drama, “Ginger & Rosa.” It takes a long time to get to the emotional payoff, but Fanning makes it worth the slog.

Elle Fanning puts in serious work. She's good. But overall the film is cinematic drivel.
