KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A neighbor is being credited for saving the life of a Kansas City, Mo., man after the minivan he was working under fell on top of him.

Fifty-year-old Eddie Kelly is listed in serious condition at a metro hospital after a freak accident near 59th and Jackson Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Kelly was trying to fix the power steering of a friend's Chrysler Town & Country minivan when his jack slipped or gave way and the vehicle collapsed on him.

Michael Lewis lives down the block and came running with his own jack when he heard what happened.

"I didn't know the guy personally but it was an intense moment, he was in need so I was able to lend a hand and help... I would do it a thousand times more," said Lewis.

Sharon Oswald owns the minivan and says her friend Eddie Kelly would probably be dead if not for Lewis running to the rescue.

"I told him thank you, thank you." said Oswald.

Oswald says Kelly has a broken rib and has yet to regain consciousness but is expected to recover.
