PINE LAWN, Mo. (KTVI) - Two small children were caught in the middle of a bizarre series of crimes in Pine Lawn on Saturday afternoon.
Pine Lawn Police said their mother went to work leaving the kids in the care of her boyfriend, 27-year old Lyle Deloch.
Shortly before 2:00 p.m., a 911 call alerted police to a home burglary in progress in the 4300 block of Ravenwood. The house being burglarized was just across the street from where Deloch was babysitting the children, ages four and eight.
Patrolmen arrived and blocked in the suspect’s car. However, he drove at one of the police cars striking it and then led police on a high speed chase through several St. Louis County municipalities and into St. Louis city.
The suspect lost control of the car on the Riverview ramp to I-270 east bound. He fled on foot as police ran after the man. Officers apprehended the suspect and identified him as Deloch. They said he left the youngsters on their own.
“The children were pretty shaken up,” said Sgt. Steve Blakeney of the Pine Lawn Police Department. Police also found a small amount of drugs in the home laying out in the open.
“When Mr. Deloch decided to go on a crime spree and a high speed chase he left the children in the house by themselves with the drug paraphernalia and drugs. He’s going to be charged for that," Sgt. Blakeney said.
Police are also looking for a second suspect in the burglary.
On Sunday, Pine Lawn Police sought warrants against Deloch from the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney. They plan to ask that he be held without bond.
“Mr. Deloch is a very dangerous man,” Sgt. Blakeney said.
