Small plane crashes near Lawrence, pilot in hospital

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- A pilot in his 60s suffered serious and was airlifted to University of Kansas Hospital after his ultralight airplane crashed Wednesday afternoon.

A relative identified the pilot as Dennis McNish.

According to McNish's family, the plane crashed on his own property in Douglas County in the 1600 block of N. 1300 Rd. around 12:45 p.m.

His wife was home and saw the crash happen at the back of their property on an airstrip in their backyard, authorities said.

McNish is expected to be OK.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected at the property to review the crash.
