KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Emergency crews responded to a tractor-trailer fire on EB 670 ramp to NB I-35 in downtown loop early Wednesday morning.

It’s unclear how the fire started, but flames reportedly shot high into the air, burning a sign pole on the highway. The cab of the truck was destroyed; only charred rubble remained. The trailer sustained severe damage.

Witnesses said the driver was able to get out of the cab. He was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for unknown injuries.

The cause remains under investigation.
