McCaskill endorses group supporting potential Hillary Clinton 2016 run
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri posted a statement on the Ready for Hillary website demonstrating her support for the group that supports a Hillary Clinton run for president in 2016.
“In 2008, I was an early supporter of then-Senator Obama’s campaign,” McCaskill said in a statement on the website. “I worked my heart out to elect him president. Now as I look at 2016 and think about who is best to lead this country forward, I’m proud to announce that I am ready for Hillary.”
According to New York Times, McCaskill’s endorsement is the first of its kind by a current member of Congress. McCaskill’s is an endorsement for a “super PAC” that wants Clinton to run for president, not an actual presidential endorsement for the current secretary of state.
“It’s important that we start early, building a grass-roots army from the ground up, and effectively using the tools of the Internet — all things that President Obama did so successfully — so that if Hillary does decide to run, we’ll be ready to help her win,” McCaskill said in a statement released by the group.
Clinton has not publicly stated an interest in a presidential run in 2016.
