NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police were called to the scene of a shooting Wednesday morning near 24th and Ozark in North Kansas City.

The police chief told FOX 4 that one person was shot and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

"We'd like to think that we have a community here that is safe where people don't necessarily experience problems like this on a routine basis," said Steven Beamer, North Kansas City Police Chief. "But at any point in time there can be a problem in virtually any neighborhood and when it occurs we're going to deal with it as best we can and that's what we're doing right now."

The block would be barricaded most of the day, police said, but they have been given consent to enter the home to investigate the scene.

FOX 4 asked authorities if the shooting happened during a home invasion and he told us he would 'not characterize' it as a home invasion at this time.
