OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Hundreds turned out Tuesday evening to honor a teen killed while attempting to cross Interstate 35 over the weekend.
Thirteen-year-old Ezekial Crapo died Saturday evening while trying to run across I-35 just south of the 75th Street in Overland Park. Ezekial’s father, Daniel Crapo, said his son and his friends were trying to get to Walmart on the other side of the highway.
"The thirteen years I have with him, I would do it over and over again because he was a kid that truly made me proud every day."
Friends gathered and released balloons in the boy's honor.
"No matter what I'm never going to forget about him and I'm sure none of us are either," said Crapo's best friend, David Rees.
The man who struck the teen was not at fault and will not be charged, police said.
