Mo., man charged with abuse after beating son in head with baseball bat

ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis-area man has been charged with child abuse after allegedly beating his son in the head with a wooden baseball bat.

Police said the incident happened late Friday night in St. Charles County, Mo. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mark Calloni, 46, was charged with child abuse after attacking his son. At the time of the incident Calloni was on probation for assaulting the boy.

Police said the boy tried to get away but Calloni tackled him and pinned him to the ground during Friday’s incident. At some point the boy managed to escape and sought help at a neighbor’s home where police were contacted. The boy was treated at an area hospital.

Calloni is being held on $100,000 bond.
