Arrest made in Shawnee copper wire theft

SHAWNEE, Kan. -- A 39-year-old man is behind bars after he was caught trying to steal copper wire from the city of Shawnee, police said.

Police said 1,300 feet of copper wire was taken from as many as eight utility poles and hidden in the weeds.

Police set up a surveillance camera and said they caught Jake Shields, 39, coming back for it. Shields was arrested at his Shawnee home.
