KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police are investigating a home invasion that sent the homeowner to the hospital.
The victim told police he was asleep on the couch when two people began shaking him and demanded money. When he said he didn't have any, the intruders grabbed his guns and began beating him. He then ran across the street to his neighbors to call police.
Neighbor Billy Drake identified the victim as Chuck Jones, 72.
"His brother called me and told me," said Drake. "They stole a shotgun and a handgun. I don't think they stole any money because all the money he had was in his pocket."
Drake describes his neighborhood as quiet these days, but says if a crime were to happen, Jones might be an easy target.
"He looks like he's been in pretty poor health," said Drake. "Probably 20 years ago he fell off a ladder and broke his ankle. Something didnt heal up right so they ended up cutting his leg off at his knee."
With Jones in the hospital for a couple of days, Drake says he knows he's going to have to step up as a neighborhood watchdog.
"The only thing I can do is keep looking a little bit harder and make sure i lock my door," he said.
Police have not released the descriptions of those two suspects.
