Man convicted for 2011 murder

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man was convicted of second-degree murder by a Jackson County jury on Thursday. Umar Muhammad, 32, was found guilty in the killing of Mohamed Hussein. Hussein was shot and killed near Brooklyn and Independence Avenues on May 19, 2011.

Muhammad was also convicted of another assault that occurred at the same time that Hussein was killed in addition to two counts of armed criminal action.

The jury recommended 30 years in prison for the murder conviction, 15 for the separate assault and 10 and 5 years respectively for the armed criminal action counts. A judge will sentence Muhammad in October.
