KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Residents were warned Friday morning about gas in the area after a contractor reportedly hit a natural gas line at N.E. 38th Street and North Parvin Road.

The Kansas City Fire Department and Missouri Gas Energy are on the scene. The Fire Department said it had not ordered any evacuations initially, but when FOX 4 reached the scene, six homes had been evacuated and their gas shut off.

Streets in the area have been closed as a precaution.

The line was a two inch line and there was a noticeably strong odor of gas in the area.
