Joe’s Weather Blog: Summer Returns This Week!
At times summer weather blogs can be very difficult to write. This summer it hasn’t been that hard though with all the ups and downs we’ve seen temperature wise lately. Between that and the varied rainfall patterns around this part of the country and the fact that this summer has been so different from last summer…blogs have tended to get cobbled together…
Now however; things are looking much more typical for summer and I can guarantee the last half of the month will be significantly hotter than the 1st part of the month. We’ve finished 18 days of August and we’re running more than 5° below average…that will be chopped away over the next 10+ days as temperatures will slowly rise to near and above 90° over the next 5-7 days and without any rain chances you’ll need those sprinklers again.
It will take awhile to bake out the soil and the sun’s angle on us has changed a lot over the last few weeks as fall is about a month away…plus the terrain is mostly very lush and green, all these items will conspire to keep highs below 100°. by the same token all the moisture in the ground will be turning into some rather thick humidity later in the week so the words “heat index” are going to be coming back to the weather casts again.
Our average high is about 87 to 85° over the next 10 days and I would suspect that we’ll finally start seeing some above average days again. We haven’t seen a 90° day in KC @ KCI since July 22nd…and amazing stretch of 28 straight days including today..that streak will end sometime later in the week I think.
Here is a look at the next 10 days off the EURO model…nothing extreme mind you just a persistent late August grinding heat…click on that graphic to make it more readable.
With the building heat, comes few, if any, rain chances for awhile. The EURO is painting less than 1/10″ or so for most of the area…
Even towards the end of the month, there isn’t a cold front to be found…so this will no doubt be a long hot/humid dry stretch that will be kicking into gear during the middle of the week.
Basically to me it looks like a prolonged stretch of 88-93° highs and lows in the 68-73° range developing in a few more days…not extreme by any means,, but again just grinding.
That’s all for today. I will attempt to put together a couple of blogs this week but there will be the typical summer down days for the blog for the rest of the month until the weather starts to stir again…as you know I won’t cobble together a blog just to write a blog. It’s a waste of your valuable time.
