KINGSTON, Mo. --  Police in Caldwell County are involved in a manhunt.

They said that 23-year-old Brian Adkison broke out of jail nearly two weeks ago, and they've been searching for him ever since.

Adkison is also accused of the rape of his ex-girlfriend, who is a student at the University of Missouri.

Adkison is still on the run. Caldwell County sheriff Jerry Galloway confirmed that this morning and said that Adkison hasn't been seen since August 11th. That's when he broke out of the Caldwell County Detention Center and ran away on foot. Police say he was wearing nothing but a pair of boxer shorts.

Police records show Adkison has broken the law on multiple occasions, Including a November 2011 arrest in Columbia, Mo. for stealing. A judge gave him two years of probation for that. Later, Adkison did five days behind bars after being arrested for drunk driving last June.

Back in May, Columbia Police arrested Adkision, after an ex-girlfriend accused him of rape. He's supposed to appear for a hearing on that in September. When he escaped, Adkinson was awaiting trial on a charges from June. Records show those included kidnapping, domestic violence and violating a protective order.

Elizabeth Daley said she's a former friend of Adkison's. The two shared an apartment for a while, and took two long trips together. She said she knew Adkison had other offenses, but she never thought he'd break out of jail.

"To think he used to stay at my house," Daley said. "I used to go across states with him. It's just really scary. That could have been me."

Sheriff Galloway said his department is working with the Missouri Highway Patrol to find Adkison. He would not disclose their method of search, or where they believe the escapee might be hiding.
