GRANDVIEW, Mo. -- Workers are using fans to try and keep cool at Job-One, located in Grandview after thieves stole the compressors from two industrial-sized air conditioners.

Job-One is a not-for-profit organization that provides employment for people with disabilities. Usually 75 people are busy at work on the floor, but at least 20 can't because of medical conditions, which have complicated by the loss of air conditioning. And that means lost wages and lost funding.

"We are in the hottest stretch of the year, so the timing has really been unfortunate for everyone involved," Aaron Martin, CEO, said.

It's suspected the thieves stole the compressors to sell for scrap metal, but damage is so severe everything will need to be replaced.

"The sad thing is for the little amount a money they made, they have very much disrupted the people who work for us," Martin said.

And they've disrupted the organization and caused tens of thousands of dollars in damge

Martin hopes to have the new air conditioning units to cool things down by the end of the week.

"We have people who want nothing more than to come to work be productive, do the right thing, be contributing members of society, and there are people who don't want to do it and want something easy so they vitimize people," he said.

And with temperatures hovering in the mid 90s, the new units can't come soon enough.
