MEMPHIS — The message on a billboard in Memphis, Tenn. is amusing and resonating with many who drive by it, thanks to its catchy picture and slogan.

In fact, many drivers honk in appreciation when they see it.

The billboard was rented by Fred Davis,  a former Memphis city councilman and civil rights pioneer.

It shows two images: A student in a cap and gown, and a man wearing sagging pants.

“Show Your Mind, Not Your Behind,” the billboard reads.

“So that young people could see the difference. It’s all about your mind and not your behind.  I decided to make the investment and to purchase that billboard space and I assure you it is not inexpensive,” Davis said with a laugh.

Davis was recently chosen as the only African-American in the 100 most influential insurance executives in the country.
