KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Disaster can strike at any time, often without warning.  But being prepared and knowing what to do in an emergency can make the difference.

Throughout the month of September, safety advocates have been encouraging Americans to create a disaster plan as part of National Prepardness Month.

Tracey Hawkins, better known as "Tracey, the Safety Lady," appeared on Monday's FOX 4 Morning Show and talked about ways to make sure we all have a disaster plan in place.

She made these suggestions.

  1. Document/record your valuables
  2. Assemble to go and survival kits
  3. Stock up on survival gear
  4. Practice a family safety plan
