Umar Muhammad sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Following his second-degree murder conviction in August, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday that Umar Muhammad, 32, will serve a 30-year prison sentence. Muhammad was found guilty of murdering Mohamed Hussein in a crime that occurred in 2011.
Muhammad was also found guilty of an array of other charges but he will serve those convictions concurrently with his murder sentence, which will still result in a 30-year prison term.
He was sentenced to 10 years for one count of armed criminal action, 15 years for assault and five years for a separate armed criminal action conviction. The assault and second armed criminal action count stem from injuring a different person in the act of the crime against Hussein.
Hussein was shot and killed by Muhammad on May 19, 2011 at the intersection of Brooklyn and Independence Avenues.
