‘Boys Grow’ teaches valuable life lessons

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- From local produce to the valuable lessons behind hard work, a local non-profit organization is supporting young innder city boys.

Now the group Boys Grow, needs a permanet home to continue teaching business and entrepreneurship skills as well as creating and maintaining sustainable farm land for the youth of the city.

John Gordon, the organization's founder, was a guest on Tuesday's FOX 4 Morning Show and talked about the organization and the need for a permanent home for the group to continue its mission.

If you would like to help Boys Grow, there will be a benefit for the group on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Lidia's Restaurant located at 101 W. 22nd Street in Kansas City, Mo.

Gordon and Bryan Hernandez from Boys Grow also shared a couple of recipes that used locally grown ingredients.   The ingredients are listed below.  For cooking directions, please watch the video below.

Agave Ketchup Cocktail Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs. large shrimp in the shell
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons prepared horse radish
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • Dash of Worchestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce

 

Salsa Orgullo Farm Fresh Egg White Omlet

Ingredients:

  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 roasting pepper
  • 1 teaspoon diced jalapeno
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup shredded spinach
  • 1/2 cup diced ham
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella
