SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A long-tenured teacher with a history of misconduct may have outdone himself this week. Gregory Sims was suspended without pay for five days starting Wednesday from Lake Brantley High School after students said they saw him tie up a disruptive student with tape.
According to WFTV, officials with the Seminole County Public Schools said that Sims first taped a female student’s hands together and tried to tape her mouth shut while also taping her book bag to a pole. The school board approved the decision to suspend him on Tuesday night.
Sims has been teaching in that school district for more than two decades and it isn’t the first time he’s been suspended according to WFTV.
In 2001 Sims was suspended for misconduct and embarrassing students. In 2005 he received a warning after calling a female student a derogatory name and was suspended for the same offense in 2008. Sims teaches science and also serves as an athletic trainer.
