OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Police arrested a mother outside an Overland Park elementary school for driving under the influence of alcohol while picking up her child on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
According to court documents, the mother, Ashlee Huber, 29, went to Commanche Elementary School, located at 8200 Grant St., to pick up her five-year-old daughter from kindergarten, but a staff member at the school became concerned.
School officials made the decision to call police and Huber was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said Huber had another child, a four-year-old, in the car with her at the time.
"Sometimes situations are difficult, but when something happens, staff takes every step possible to make sure safety concern is taken care of, in this case meant calling police," said Leigh Ann Neal, Shawnee Mission School District spokesperson.
Huber spent about 24 hours behind bars before she posted her bail at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. She was out of jail by Thursday morning.
