LAWRENCE, Kan. — It’s been more than three calender years since the Kansas Jayhawk football team won a Big 12 conference game. That drought is now over.

Riding the running of senior James Sims, Kansas broke a 27-game Big 12 conference losing streak, beating West Virginia in Lawrence, 31-19.

It was also the first conference win for head coach Charlie Weis who took over the program at the beginning of the 2012 season.

Sims rushed for 3 touchdowns and 211 yards total. Kansas started a true freshman at quarterback, Montell Cozart. Kansas is now 3-7 overall, and 1-6 in Big 12 play. West Virginia drops to 4-7 and 2-6.
