KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Twenty five years ago an explosion at a southeast Kansas City construction site killed six firefighters. On Friday, people gathered at the firefighter’s memorial to remember that day.
Firefighters had responded to a fire at a construction trailer on November 29th, 1988. But the trailer contained fuel and 25,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate stored there for blasting rock -- and it went up in a massive explosion.
Five people are serving life prison sentences in relation to the explosion.
