SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Two friends met in a way they didn't expect after ice made them lose control of their vehicles in the same driveway.
Both women had young children with them when their van and car slid down a driveway near 55th and Pflumm.
Rani Ast had her two-year-old son with her when the van rolled off a retaining rock wall and landed on its top. Nicole Fromholt turned into the driveway with a 6-week-old baby girl when she too lost control and her car crashed into Rani's van.
"As soon as I hit the driveway, it started sliding and wouldn't stop," said Rani Ast. "First thing I could talk to my son and he said, 'I'm okay Mommy. Just get me out. Help me, Mommy,' and luckily his door had flown open so I was able to unbuckle my seatbelt and crawl out."
Both women and children walked away uninjured. After looking over the pictures of the crash, both women agree they were lucky.
"I just had no control of the vehicle and I tried to turn the wheel and I just kept sliding off the cliff," said Nicole Fromholtz. "I was just screaming, 'There's a baby. There's a baby!' and I could see everyone down here. It was horrible."
