Going just a few days without shampooing your hair would leave most feeling grungy, grimy and gross. But five years sans shampoo? Ew. Right?

Maybe not.

Jaquelyn Baers hasn’t washed her hair in five years. She first wrote about her decision to ditch shampoo on her blog LittleOwlCrunchyMomma. She says questionable ingredients in shampoos (paraben, phthalates and petrolem byproducts) prompted her to seek an alternative.

At first she tried baking soda and vinegar. Baking soda to wash, vinegar to condition, but she said this combination either dried her hair (due to the baking soda) or made it greasy, a result of the vinegar.

So how does she keep her hair clean now?

She rinses it about two times a week. That’s it. That’s it.

She admits that it took a few months for her hair to adjust to not being washed, but now she calls it “super healthy.”

See pictures of her hair on her blog, here.
