INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Independence Police announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for stealing guns from the Independence Bass Pro Shop on Thursday.

An undetermined number of guns are now in the wrong hands after thieves broke into the Bass Pro Shop, 18001 E. Bass Drive.

Officers received the call triggered by the burglar alarm at about 3:20 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, they found broken glass and called Bass Pro management, who checked their inventory and determined several guns were taken. Authorities said all the guns were long guns.

A customer visiting the store told FOX 4 in a facebook message that the front entry was damaged and boarded up.  He saw three cases with busted glass. He reported that two large long gun racks were ripped from the wall.

He said the employee at the gun counter told him, "Do you know how long you go to jail for stealing one gun let alone a bunch of them?"

No one was hurt in the burglary and police say no employees saw the burglars.

FOX 4 is following this story and will learn more from Independence Police and the ATF.  Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (1-800-283-4867) or Independence Police at 816-325-7300.
