TRENTON, Mo. -- A faith healer, who said he has helped cure people of everything from Lou Gehrig's disease to leukemia, is under attack from tenants living in the multiple rentals he owns. They wonder why he won't cure what's ailing his apartments where they say the roofs leak, the porches sag and the pipes freeze.

Natasha Ingersoll said you need to invest in a few buckets before you rent from Bob Morgans.

"My kitchen roof is leaking," said Ingersoll, who shares the home with her boyfriend and two children. "My bathroom roof is leaking. My pipes keep freezing because of a hole in the side of the house."

Yet Ingersoll said complaints to have landlord have been ignored.

"He goes around preaching about God, but lets us live in a house like this," Ingersoll said.

Landlord Bob Morgans is a faith healer. He travels the country curing the sick. If you live in Kansas City, you many have seen his truck. It's often parked near 31st street and has a large billboard in the back advertising his ministry.

But in Trenton, renters say Morgans' reputation isn't for spreading the word, but for spreading blight. Morgans owns 46 homes in a town of just over 6,000 people. Even Trenton's city administrator acknowledges that many of his properties have issues.

If you bring in a low-income, people in Trenton say you are almost forced to rent from Morgans.

"He owns most of the places in Trenton," said Nellie Vanhoozer, who's being evicted from the apartment she rents from Morgans for using a space heater.

"I went without heat for two-and-a-half days," Vanhoozer said.

The heat now works again, but she has blankets over the front door to keep the cold out. Her eviction hearing is this month and she hasn't been able to find another place to live that she can afford.

"Me and my granddaughter may have to go out to the hotel for a while until I find something," Vanhoozer said.

Her lease gives her 10 days to get out, a time frame that's illegal under Missouri law, which requires landlords to give tenants at least 30 days notice.

So what does Preacher Morgans have to say? We found him working on another home he owns just a few blocks away.

"I own 46 properties and I work on them every day," Morgans said.

He blames his renters for the problems. He said he's evicting Vanhoozer because she put her electric space heater near the thermostat, shutting off the furnace to another unit in the same building and freezing the pipes.

"She froze the pipes four times and I finally had to evict her," Morgans said,.

When we asked Morgans about the broken pipes and leaky roof in Ingersoll's home, he denied there was a leak.

"They all have new roofs," Morgans said, adding that that any problems she was having were caused by Natasha. Plus, he said he stopped working on her home after she stopped paying rent.

Natasha said she's been withholding rent since January until he fixes her home.

"But it made the situation worse," Ingersoll said, who has now find a new place to live in Chillicothe.

Morgans said all his properties pass city inspection before he rents them. Trenton's code enforcement officer agreed, but said he's visited both Natasha's and Nellie's homes recently and observed multiple violations. Some were caused by renters, including a broken window, and some were not. For example, it's illegal in Trenton to have one thermostat controlling multiple units, like the one in Nellie's apartment.

Morgans said he does the best he can to take care of all his properties, but he's got a ministry to look after.

"I've been gone preaching in Texas for the last two weeks," Morgans said.

But now he's back in Trenton and back at work on his rental homes. He said he's recently bought even more homes and will soon expand his rental empire. Meanwhile Nellie Vanhoozer said she may be forced to leave the town she loves to find a place to live.

I grew up in Trenton and Bob Morgans rentals have been the subject of jokes. His “ministry” is a cover up for his shady business dealings as a landlord. He needs to be taken down for his illegal actions!

  • My hometown

There’s a Facebook page that was started by Natasha’s 13yr ol’ daughter. On that pg ‘stories of renting from bob Morgan’ there r many many stories from multiple renters and non renters who r fed up w Bob Morgans shadey ways. Even city admin admitting they’ve known about complaints for yrs! To get the compete story u should check out the pg.

my husband used to do mantience for Morgans years ago, and was told to Rig it just long enough to make it look good when the code enforcer came to check them out and the people who did hud inspections, and he didnt want to put the money out to fix them properly. I wouldn’t let my dog live in a Bob Morgans house. He is representing himself as a man of god, but the jokes on him, because he will have to pay at judgment day!

These people that rent these houses are like dirty rats, either make the houses nice and raise the rent or condemn them and run the rats out of town. The police dept. wouldn’t complain either.

      • D

These are not rats living here and the Trenton PD is as big of a joke as Bob morgan is, if not worse.

  • Tired of Trenton

it’s funny to me how he “does the best he can” and has “a ministry to look after” and is constantly traveling to “heal” people, but can’t afford to keep up on his rental properties? then has the nerve to buy more houses? money is evidently the clear issue here.

God says to show love. This type of treatment isn’t showing love. Judge Judy may say move, but she has money, some do not have options that others do ( lets be real ) and a man of God shouldn’t abuse the situation because of the mighty dollar. If he is worried about his ministry he needs to sale or pay somebody to take care of his houses while he is gone.

I lived in a Morgans home for 2 years. My floors were all falling in. My neighbor was a Morgan renter, too. Their waste pipes emptied into a crawl space under the house. Most of the windows were broken but not repaired. When I moved out I asked for my deposit back and he laughed at me and said” I never give any money back. Besides, you look like you’re not hurting”. And, I have witnesses to that fact. I do thank him for the house as I needed it desperately at the time, but he was never around unless it was time to pick up the rent. And, I could go on and on, but, “nuf said.

We lived in 2 of his houses when we first moved to Trenton one of them the roof was falling in not stable for 2 little kids so we moved to another one there were dead birds in the light fixtures and he dad the hot water heater rigged we had to go in the basement and press a button and only had hot water for like 5 min. We called the inspectors and they wouldn’t do anything

Bob Morgan is the biggest joke in Trenton he is nothing but a slum lord he needs to b banned from buying or renting homes out I’ve never rented from him we own 3 homes in our town of Trenton and if you look around all the homes that r rented from Morgan r the homes that bring our town down simply because he does nothing right to fix them if he does anything it is a quick fix his hole minister thing is a joke he is the biggest scammer I’ve ever seen in my life

  • J.D.

The Slick Willy we have for an inspector is a big part of the problem. He has several problems with residents & several people in the community are fed up with his antics as well as the mayor & city council who allows him to to lead them around on a leash. Thanks for reporting in our hometown. Love you Fox4.

The first several houses Bob Morgans has were bought by a church he pastured and put in his name. He never fixes them. One on the main drag smelled like raw sewage for a year.

I agree this has gotten way out of hand.Made up stories, people arguing back and forth and now it is half the town fighting and arguing with the other half.Yrs some of Bob Morgans houses do need work but yes also he does have people working on them all the time. Our town needs to pull back together and stop fighting with each other for what a child started to begin with.Thats what I think about it.

In my past I had rented 4 houses from Mr. Morgans. I paid him his rent when due, I didn’t tear the houses up. He always made sure that the houses were up to code with Green Hills section 8.
Anytime I had a complaint is was answered, and he or a worker he’d hired was there in three days, never over a week. I NEVER had problem one with him nor his houses. I gave him the respect he had coming whether he deserved it or not, and he did, with me. He never once let me down.
In August of 2011 I had been through a near fatal accident, fresh out of a nursing home in Princeton Missouri, I rented a house from him on 8th street, behind the old Adam’s Middle School. Any problem there was he was there or had a worker there within no longer than a week, usually three days
When I was wanting a house that was lesser in rent, due to my disabilities at the time, Mr. Morgans hired three workers who came into that house, packed all my belongings for me and moved them to the next house. I didn’t have to lift a finger. All my belongings were safely moved; nothing damaged nor missing.
As far as Mr. Morgans’ religiosity, he is of the United Pentecostal sect. I do not agree with it at all, I know what it is and would not “touch it with a ten foot pole”. As far as him being my landlord, after having rented 4 different houses from him between the middle 90’s and 2013 I have NO complaints what-so-ever. If I were to go back to Trenton I would have no fear of renting from him again.
If a person is that destitute there is Green Hills through the section 8 program does help with rentals.
I can’t agree with these people. Mr. Morgans had done quite well by me.

  • Alexander Hartley

I am well aware of the type of people Mr. Morgans rents to, so I definitely would NOT put all the blame on him. The house I’d rented from him in 2011, I saw first hand along with the two people that were with me the trashy mess it was left in and it was shameful however the house was spic and span the day I moved in.
People trash his houses and then have the gall to complain. As I’ve said in another comment, over a twenty year span I’d rented 4 houses from him and had not problem one where he or the houses were concerned.
Three of them I rented with the help of section 8, he made sure they were up to code. Now then, I’d guess you could try to lay the blame off on the Green Hills establishment if you chose. I wouldn’t suggest it.
