KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Three people were hurt at three different Kansas City gas stations after someone shot off a BB gun. Police believe these three shootings may be connected and detectives reviewed surveillance video trying to develop leads.

One of the shootings happened at a "Xpress Mart" near 70th and Troost. That's where a man reported being hit in the ear with a pellet. Police were also called to "The Top Shop" near 27th and Brooklyn where a victim reported being hit in her arm. There was another at a BP gas station near Truman and Paseo. That's where a third victim said he was hit in the abdomen.

Even though the bullets weren’t real, a doctor FOX 4 spoke with said damage can still be done.

"We think of BB guns almost as toys and being completely innocuous, but that's not the case," Dr. Lee Robinson at North Kansas City Hospital said.

If a pellet hits a vital spot, it can cause serious injury, even death according to Dr. Robinson. If you know anything about these BB gun shootings you're urged to call police or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.

This is another case of negligent parents. BB guns are not allowed in the city so what parent would buy their kid one and let them use it at will? I bought a BB gun for the neighbor boy when I took him to our farm. The gun stays at the farm and he is not allowed to have it at his home in the city. I also bought him a bow and arrows and a similar rule applies. He can take home the bow but I keep the arrows. It really isn’t that difficult to do. If your kids want a BB gun, they have to agree in advance to the rules or they don’t get one. Parents need to start being smarter guardians of their children and if they cannot do that, they should pay the fines and stop having more kids.
