KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man who allegedly traveled from central Texas to Kansas City last week offering to pay $400 to have sex with two minors faces two charges of attempted statutory rape. John P. Christian, 40, is accused of reaching out to an undercover officer through an online pornographic website to arrange sex acts with girls he believed to be 11 and 15 years old.

According to a probable cause statement, a detective with KCPD’s vice section had set up an undercover profile that claimed he was a single dad with two girls and sent messages asking if anyone was near Missouri. He stated he received a message from Christian on February 19 expressing interest in meeting the detective’s two girls and left a phone number.

The detective called Christian where they made arrangements to exchange $400 for sex with both girls. In the days leading up to Christian traveling to Kansas City he’s accused of asking about explicit sexual acts and expressing which sexual acts he wanted the girls to perform. On February 28th he reportedly sent $200 of the payment up front before he said he was going to drive to Kansas City.

Court documents state that Christian arrived in Kansas City last weekend and went to an address in the 500 block of Windrose where he was taken into police custody by a tactical team. He was found in possession of two bags, one that had a ‘Hello Kitty’ backpack, jewelry and young girls undergarments and another that had an iPod and rope necklaces. He’s also said to have had a laptop computer and sexual lubricant.

When detectives interviewed Christian he said that he had come to Kansas City for “illegal sex” and admitted he had agreed to perform sexual acts on minors for $400 and gifts. When detectives searched the motel room he was staying in they found a notebook that stated the sex acts he was going to perform and evidence indicating that he had flown to Kansas City. His listed address is in San Marcos, Tex., which is in between Austin and San Antonio and more than 700 miles from the metro area.

Christian is formally charged with attempted first and second-degree statutory rape. He is being held on a $75,000 bond and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Monday, he’s due to appear in court again on April 1.

Online court records indicate that his charge for attempted first-degree statutory rape will be eligible for more severe punishment because one of the supposed victims was 11 years old and there were two supposed victims. If convicted for that charge he faces a term of no less than 10 years and up to life imprisonment. The punishment for the attempted second-degree statutory rape charge is imprisonment not less than two years but no more than four.
