INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A young dog now being called “Chance” will be ready for adoption soon, according to Great Plains SPCA, but Chance comes with some special needs.

The 1½ year old Shepherd Mix was found Friday evening, alone in a home in Jackson County. Neighbors confirmed the homeowners had been gone for two months. Great Plains SPCA said it was apparent Chance had been there alone. They say there was a large hole dug into the sheetrock and they believe Chance was trying to dig his way out of the home.

Chance was receiving medical care and was to be neutered on Thursday. For those interested in adopting him, please note he expressed fear of people when he was found.
