KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Have you ever won an international lottery or sweepstakes that you didn’t even realize you’d entered? Now the feds are issuing a new warning about the fraudsters behind these scams that they believe rob Americans of hundreds of millions of dollars every year.

US Attorney Barry Grissom of Kansas said the elderly are the most likely targets and more than 90 percent of the time never tell people they’ve been scammed.

“These people have been taken advantage of and they won’t come forward for a whole host of reasons, the biggest being they are embarrassed,” Grissom said.

To combat the problem, the US Postal Service has set up a website showing how to spot one of these scams and how to report it. You can access it by clicking on this link.
