KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An injured firefighter limped away from a house fire at 44th & The Paseo with a sprained ankle.  He and other firefighters responded to the vacant house fire around 8:00 this morning.

The house was fully engulfed in flames and there was lots of heavy black smoke, mainly coming from the back of the duplex, when crews arrived.  It appears that the fire may have started in the basement of the boarded up home.

A battalion chief on the scene told FOX 4 that dangerous buildings had been called out to inspect the house and it is more than likely going to be torn down.

No word on a cause or estimate of damages.
