Homeless man accused of opening unlocked door, trying to rape Indep. woman
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A homeless man who told police he had failed to register as a sex offender has been charged in an attempted rape of an Independence woman in her residence on Monday.
Davidson Hosteen, 47, faces the charge of Attempted Rape in the Second Degree.
According to court records, the victim told Independence police that at about 7:10 p.m. Monday, the man entered her home through an unlocked door. He tackled her with a ‘bear hug’ and forced her to the couch, where he began grabbing her body and breast and kissing her on the neck.
She said she screamed for him to get off of her. The woman’s son-in-law then came to the house to pick up his daughter. He found the man hovered over her. The son-in-law said when he shoved the man out the door, the suspect landed on his face. He told police he was familiar with the suspect, but said his mother-in-law never had a relationship with him.
Police later found the suspect and arrested him. They say he admitted he was drunk and must have blacked out. He told police he couldn’t remember what happened.
He admitted he had failed to properly register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $100,000.
