INDEPENDENCE,  Mo. — A homeless man who told police he had failed to register as a sex offender has been charged in an attempted rape of an Independence woman in her residence on Monday.

Davidson Hosteen, 47, faces the charge of Attempted Rape in the Second Degree.

According to court records, the victim told Independence police that at about 7:10 p.m. Monday, the man entered her home through an unlocked door. He tackled her with a ‘bear hug’ and forced her to the couch, where he began grabbing her body and breast and kissing her on the neck.

She said she screamed for him to get off of her. The woman’s son-in-law then came to the house to pick up his daughter. He found the man hovered over her. The son-in-law said when he shoved the man out the door, the suspect landed on his face. He told police he was familiar with the suspect, but said his mother-in-law never had a relationship with him.

Police later found the suspect and arrested him. They say he admitted he was drunk and must have blacked out. He told police he couldn’t remember what happened.

He admitted he had failed to properly register as a sex offender.

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $100,000.

I would shoot him but keep him alive. I would have the gun pointed straight at him until police arrived. If he tried anything I would kill him. If I thought my life was in danger or the womans life I would shoot to kill. I would definitely do something to stop a rape from happening. No one should go through a rape. If he comes at me or tries to continue, I will shoot to kill.

When my life or someone elses life is in danger, I will do what it takes to stop that person. So many people think they don’t need a gun until something happens to them and it is too late. We have a right to defend ourselves.

$100,000 bond is a slap on the wrist. There shouldn’t be any type of bond when it comes to a rape. It can change the woman’s whole life around. The guy will keep doing the same thing. He has been caught once before and he will do it again until he is locked up for good. He had no intention of registering for a sex offender in the first place. He needs some real jail time so this doesn’t happen again.

Wow! Thank God her son-in-law came in the nick of time. This guy looks really greasy and the poor woman would have spent years recovering. I would bet that she has learned to keep her doors locked. Some people just have to learn the hard way.

Joe did you just suggest that the rape attempt was a lesson she needed to learn ” the hard way” because she didn’t lock her door? In what book of behaviors does it suggest she should be a prisoner in her own home? We Put locks on prison doors to keep the bad guys in, we shouldn’t have to lock ourselves in our homes to be safe. Harsher punishment for criminals and harsher living conditions are necessary. People are confused and think criminals should have rights while law abiding citizens should give up theirs.

Listen, Listen, Listen Linda….Honey: I am suggesting that the scare she got will encourage her to keep her doors locked. If you choose not to lock your doors, Linda, be prepared for whatever may happen. You seem to be one of those people who doesn’t have the common sense necessary to keep yourself and your family safe so leave your doors wide open and pray for the best. Remember, this is your house and it is not a prison so be sure to keep your doors unlocked. I think you are hoping someone comes in for a hot minute.
