KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- With 13 confirmed highway shootings and possibly more, Kansas City, Mo., police and two federal agencies are ramping up their investigation. So far, at least two of the shootings have been connected, but police won't confirm the exact amount.

Dan Schoonover drives a gasoline tanker upwards of 60 miles a week all over the Kansas City metro. Normally the biggest problem on the road is other drivers on their cell phones, but now it's a much different situation.

"This (his tanker) is a big target on my back for a shooter, so it's definitely a concern," Schoonover said.

Kansas City, Mo., police understand and that's why they welcome the additional resources from their federal partners. The ATF and FBI are helping KCPD with personnel and cash. The right information to the TIPS Hotline could put $7,000 in someone's pocket.

"The existing reward in this case now, leading to an arrest is up to $7,000," Det. Kevin Boehm, Crime Stoppers Coordinator, said.

Det. Boehm said the number of call will increase, but rather than overloading the call takers or getting put on hold, he suggests people submit information online via the Crime Stoppers website: kccrimestoppers.com.

"We do encourage in these situations, where there's a potential for high volume, we encourage the tipsters to use our website because it can handle the volume," Det. Boehm said.

Det. Boehm also passed along a reminder to those who worry about remaining anonymous.

"We don't take any names, we don't record any calls, we have no reference to IP addresses or cell phones if you want to text your information to us," he said. "It's anonymous and the reward is in cash."

To text a tip, text "TIP452" along with your message to CRIMES (274637).
